Quantum Device Measurements
About the role
We are seeking an experimental quantum scientist/engineer to characterise and benchmark next-generation quantum devices and enabling hardware. The role sits in a multidisciplinary environment alongside physicists and engineers, contributing directly to the development of scalable quantum computing hardware.
What you’ll do
- Design and execute measurement protocols to characterise and benchmark the performance of devices from various platforms, including quantum dots, superconducting circuits, photonic systems and trapped ions
- Develop and automate software for instrument control, data acquisition and measurement data analysis
- Collaborate closely with device fabrication and theory teams to iterate on device design based on experimental feedback
- Troubleshoot experimental setups across hardware, software and cryogenic infrastructure
- Document and communicate results through internal reports, client deliverables, peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations
What we’re looking for
- Degree (Honours, Masters or PhD) in Physics, Quantum Engineering, Electrical Engineering
- Hands-on experience running experiments with cryogenic measurement systems, low-noise RF/DC measurement techniques and/or optical measurement systems
- Experience running Python scripts for instrument control and data analysis
- Meticulous experimental record-keeping habits
- Proactive and enthusiastic about learning new systems and techniques, with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative mindset that enables effective teamwork across a multidisciplinary group
What would impress us
- Practical experience operating and integrating advanced instrumentation for quantum measurements
- Strong proficiency in Python code development for instrument control, data acquisition and analysis
- Demonstrated experience characterising and benchmarking of quantum devices such as qubit and/or sensing systems
