Emergence Quantum announces first U.S. hire

Acclaimed hardware engineer Dr Troy England is joining Emergence Quantum — a pivotal hire as the quantum and next-generation computing company strengthens relationships in the U.S.

Based in Illinois, Dr England joins the team from America's premier particle physics and accelerator lab — Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.

At Emergence Quantum, Dr England will cover the entire design cycle of ASICs from customer interaction, idea generation, architecture selection, block design, task delegation, physical implementation, fabrication submission (tape-out), test planning, characterisation and delivery.

He says, “Emergence Quantum provides the most exciting ASIC development opportunities with one of the best teams in the world. The culture of the company exemplifies a unique combination of talent, drive, care and humility.

“It is a group uniquely poised to provide top-notch solutions in a fast-moving field.”

Co-Founder and CEO David Reilly says: “The experience and skills Troy brings are in high demand at the moment. He could’ve gone anywhere with many opportunities available to him in the US.”

Co-Founder and CTO/CSO Thomas Ohki says Dr England’s hire establishes a constant presence in the U.S.

“The largest ecosystem for quantum and advanced computing still resides in the US. We see it as essential that we are immersed in the market where all of our largest customers also are building hardware and infrastructure.

“The talent pool we also need to tap into can really only be realized if we have a strong U.S. presence that will draw the very best technical talent.”

Troy received his master’s and Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering at Georgia Tech and worked at Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico. He joined the U.S. Department of Energy’s particle physics and accelerator laboratory, Fermilab, where he has been working in the Microelectronics division designing application-specific integrated circuits for quantum and high-energy physics applications.

He joins recent hires including programs manager Dr Nadia Court, electronics engineer Dr Anand Mohan, cryogenic cooling expert Dr Arman Siavashi, hardware engineer Dr Tara Hamilton, quantum expert Dr Josh Combes and more.
